Sarasota Military Academy senior Juliana Rendle was recently announced as a recipient of the prestigious Legion of Valor “Bronze Cross for Achievement” award from The Legion of Valor of the United States of America, Inc. organization. The award, given annually, celebrates the achievement of scholastic excellence in military and academic subjects for outstanding cadets.
Freddie Figgers, founder & CEO of Figgers Communications, donated 20 computers to cadets at Sarasota Military Academy, a local, public charter school. The donation comes as an extension of the Figgers Foundation August 2019 “Back-to-School” initiative, designed to help teachers provide for the needs of students in the classroom.
The CDC Science Ambassador Fellowship provides training in curriculum design and teaching strategies to engage students in STEM using real-life epidemiology and public health examples.
SMA-CPT Jeanette Marks was recently accepted to the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory summer Research Experiences for Teachers (RET) Program. There are only ten teachers chosen throughout the nation, and she is the only teacher from Sarasota County, selected for the program.
A documentary produced by cadets at Sarasota Military Academy, a local, public charter school, received first place in the Sarasota Film Festival Student Education Category. The film, a year-long IB US History service cadet project titled "Heroines in Arms Serving Proudly," was selected from submissions by high schools across the country.
SMA-CPT Bonnie Destakasi, a language arts teacher at Sarasota Military Academy, a local, public charter school, recently received the 2019 PoetryLife’s Teaching Grant to create a Poetry Listening Immersion Program. SMA Captain Destakasi was awarded the $500 grant during the Coffee, Conversation & Lunch event held in February 2019 at the Florida Studio Theatre in Sarasota.
