I have been fortunate to join SMA Prep this year. After helping out SMA's science department, teaching Biology, Environmental Sciences, and Marine Biology since January 2016, an opportunity arose and I was lucky enough to be considered for the Prep school. I have always believed that implementing good science preparation as early as possible makes a huge difference. I come from a broad background of both education and business experiences. Prior to earning a Master’s Degree in Education from Harvard University’s MCMS: Mid-Career Math & Science Teachers program I was a software engineer and technical trainer for a number of national and international corporations. It was there that I realized my calling was helping people understand “how stuff works!” Since beginning my “formal teaching" career, I have worked to improve my skills and experiences at every opportunity. I have taught around the country (DE, MA, NC), around the world (England, Costa Rica), across disciplines (Biology, Biotechnology, Environmental Sciences, Marine and Tropical studies), and levels (from elementary STEM programs to Duke University’s TIP program). I even met my wife on a teaching training program in Costa Rica. My passion continues to be seeing students learn the subjects/sciences, by realizing the joys of coming to their own understandings! SMA offers me, and its students that opportunity.
