It seems as though I have been teaching since the dawn of the Paleolithic Era, but I must confess that the ages have flown by. Seriously, though, there was never any doubt that teaching would become my passion and lifelong career, which began in Maryland.
That passion was instilled in me by my grandmother, who was a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse before her marriage to my grandfather. Upon retirement, I moved to Florida to help care for my mother, who had just suffered a series of strokes. Once her health stabilized, I began teaching in Sarasota County Public Schools because I really missed the students. When Prep was approved to open, I jumped at the chance to get in on the ground floor, as it were, of an exciting new public charter. I was fortunate enough to be hired and become part of the SMA family, and look forward to seeing the cadets I teach not only succeed, but thrive as they weave their individual paths to adulthood.
